How to Calculate Air Dewpoint

The dew point is the temperature at which the air can no longer hold all of the water vapor it contains, forcing the condensation of that water vapor into liquid water. When the dew point gets close to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, most people can feel the air they are breathing in get thicker because of the amount of water vapor in the air.

Instructions

  1. Calculate the Dew Point

    • 1

Subtract the relative humidity from 100. Record your answer.

    • 2

Divide your previous answer by five and record that answer.

    • 3

Take the temperature of the air using the wet bulb thermometer. Record the temperature in degrees Celsius.

    • 4

Subtract your answer from step 2 from the air temperature you recorded in degrees Celcius. This result is the dew point in degrees Celsius, accurate to within one degree in either direction so long as the relative humidity is above 50 percent.
