How to Make Dry Fertilizer

Dry fertilizer can be made easily from a variety of everyday household items. It is possible to purchase dry fertilizer in the form of pellets or powder from a gardening store, but it is cheaper and better for the environment if you make your own. If you have access to only a few of the items needed to make dry fertilizer, you can ask friends, family, and neighbors for donations.

Instructions

Dry rabbit droppings on newspaper in the sun. Rabbit droppings are rich in nitrogen. Once dry, the pellets can be added straight to the soil around your plants, flowers and trees.

Crush eggshells in a blender until they form a fine powder. Eggshells are high in calcium, which is beneficial to the soil in the garden. The shells may need drying for a few minutes in a low oven to ensure they are completely dry and able to blend easily. Pieces of eggshell with jagged edges work well as slug and snail deterrents. The pieces can be placed around your vegetables.

Recycle the morning's coffee grounds. Few people realize that used coffee grounds are high in nutrients for fertilizing soil. Coffee filters and teabags can be added to the compost. Dry the coffee grounds and sprinkle them liberally over the beds.
