How to Use Red Wiggler Worm Juice

Vermicomposting bins use red wiggler worms to break down fruit and vegetable scraps into beneficial compost. Proper bins use a system of trays to promote drainage, controlling the moisture level and promoting a healthy environment for the living worms. Home gardeners can use the drained "worm juice" as compost tea for plants. Worm juice contains nutrients that plants crave and promotes microbial activity in garden soil, leading to healthier roots and less disease.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the bottom tray of the vermicomposting bin. The liquid in the tray consists of drained juices from the compost bin, and includes nutrients from food wastes and worm droppings.

    • 2

Dilute the liquid with water until it is thin enough to use in a garden sprayer or watering can.

    • 3

Strain the liquid through cheesecloth into a bucket to remove any chunks that could clog your watering system.

    • 4

Transfer the liquid to a garden sprayer or watering can and spray it on your garden soil or plant leaves.
