How to Increase the Natural Phosphate in Soil

Knowing how to increase natural phosphate in your garden's soil can ensure its health. Phosphorous is one of the three main nutrients that plants need. It is as important as nitrogen and potassium. You can increase the phosphate in your soil naturally without using chemical fertilizers by adding compost and animal manure to your soil. The amount of compost or manure that you will need to add to the soil will depend on how deficient your soil is in phosphates.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the soil by tilling the surface about 6 to 12 inches deep. This will increase the surface area of the soil and allow the natural phosphate in the compost and manure to mix in better. If you do not have a tiller, you can prepare the soil with a hoe or by turning it over with a shovel.

    • 2

Spread the compost and manure evenly over the soil.

    • 3

Till the surface of the soil again to mix in the manure and compost.
