How to Mix Potting Soil Using Chicken Manure

Chickens are a useful, productive pet and a key ingredient for a family that wants to pursue a self-sustaining lifestyle. Chickens do eat plenty of grass and plants, but they also produce eggs and manure. When properly utilized, this manure makes the perfect soil for potted plants, filling up beds and working into ground soil.

Instructions

      Combine one part chicken manure with two parts brown matter -- a mix of leaves, bark and chicken coup bedding -- in your compost pile and mix together.

      Add enough moisture to wet the entire pile. Allow the pile to heat to 150 degrees F for three days.

      Turn the pile and let it heat again.

      Loosely cover the pile with a tarp and let it cure for 60 days. You’ll know when its ready because the compost will smell like potting soil.

      Add directly to pots, planters and containers as potting soil for plant growth and vitality.
