Choose a color for your Knockout Roses.
Decide which color of Knockout Roses you would like to grow. There is a pink one and a red one, and there is also a double flower Knockout Rose and one called Blushing. A new one is called Sunny. This family of roses is a best seller in most gardening markets because it is hardy and disease resistant. Grow Knockout Roses that fit your color scheme and landscaping.
Locate this shrub in the sun.
Find a good location to grow Knockout Roses in the sun to prevent mildew and black spot. These plants are round shrubs and they get quite large. Prepare for five feet or so tall and wide. They will make a shrub border if planted in a row.
Be prepared to dig.
Dig a deep hole about twice the size of the root, and provide some loose quality soil for this rose bush to get a good start. Place the Knockout rose bush in the hole and place the soil around it higher than it was in the pot. Press it down some so the plant is anchored.
Water the Knockout Roses to get them growing.
Water the Knockout Roses until they get established. Water from the base if convenient, to avoid getting the leaves unnecessarily wet. They are drought resistant and hardy to Zone 5 and may need covering in Zone 4.
Condition for winter.
Prepare the Knockout Rose for winter with mulch up into the base about an inch or so.
Prune in the spring.
Trim the Knockout Rose in the spring to about 1/3 size, and wait for it to bear new leaves and beautiful spring flowers. This is the easiest rosebush you will ever grow, with more blooms than most rose bushes. You can grow Knockout Roses even if you have difficulty with other varieties.
