How to Remove Dead Roses From Rose Bush

When gardening, it is important to clear away any of a plant's dead or dying parts. This holds true for such flowering plants as rose bushes. When a part of the rose bush begins to die, it continues to siphon off energy from the stem and rooting system. Removing these dying areas allows the energy to be used by other areas of the rose bush, ensuring a healthier, more vibrant plant.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the rose bush and identify the areas where rose buds are dying or beginning to die. You might want to wear gloves while you do this to protect yourself from the rose bush's thorns.

    • 2

Open the rose pruners so the trimmers are as wide as possible. Slide the pruners down the dying branch to the spot where it meets up with the living part of the bush.

    • 3

Clip the dying branch off by squeezing the handles of the pruner together. As long as the pruners are sharp, this should be easy. Continue trimming until you have removed every dead rose and branch.

    • 4

Add the clippings to a compost pile.
