Winter Care for a Rose Tree

Rose trees are a beautiful addition to any garden. They look elegant and sophisticated, while their pleasant scent wafts throughout even large garden areas. If you want your rose trees to keep looking wonderful year after year, you will need to provide them with proper winter care. This involves constructing fences to keep the roses safe and secure during harsh winter weather. You should check on your fences often to make sure they are still intact.

Instructions

    • 1

Drive three wooden stakes around your rose tree using a mallet. Place the stakes evenly around the edge of the tree.

    • 2

Run garden twine from the trunk or cane of the tree to each of the stakes. Tie the twine to the trunk just below the flowering braches.

    • 3

Surround the stakes with chicken wire. The chicken wire should be driven into the ground a few inches.

    • 4

Tie the chicken wire to each of the stakes until the wire is steady.

    • 5

Fill the fence with mulch up to the bottom of the branches. The mulch will keep the roots and the cane of the rose tree warm through the winter.
