Less than four miles from Tempe, the Rose Garden at Mesa Community College offers a variety of modern roses, large-flowered roses and antique roses. Designed by landscape architect LeRoy Brady, the rose garden holds 6,000 rose bushes including the Veteran's Garden. The rose varieties in the Veteran's Garden all have names with a military or patriotic theme.

The Sahuaro Ranch Park Rose Garden is approximately 30 minutes outside Tempe in Glendale, and was founded by William Henry Bartlett in 1886. The Park's rose garden is situated among historic ranch buildings and orchards where peacocks can often be spotted roaming the grounds. The rose garden often hosts local weddings and flower shows.

Tempe is home to Arizona State University. The Arboretum at Arizona State University in Tempe proper includes 29 species of roses, as well as cactus plants, cyprus trees and date palms. The Arboretum is open to the public seven days a week and is free of charge.

The Valley Garden Center in central Phoenix is 20 minutes from Tempe and has been around since 1948. The Valley Garden Center is a non-profit organization that encourages gardening in Phoenix and local communities, and it is the meeting place for the monthly gatherings of the Phoenix Rose Society. The center offers facilities for weddings and other special events to help benefit the organization.
