How to Grow Pink Long-Stemmed Roses

Commercially, long-stemmed roses are graded according to the length of their stems and size of their buds; stems of at least 24 inches long and buds measuring at least 1 inch are considered of superior quality. If you are trying to grow long-stemmed roses in your home greenhouse, do not worry too much about length; focus on producing the best roses you can by giving them the correct care. Grow your roses in a greenhouse to ensure climate control.

Pink roses are available in many varieties.

Select your roses. Hybrid Tea roses are often chosen for long-stemmed production. Types include Aromatherapy, April in Paris and Ultimate Pink. Hybrid Tea roses are hardy in USDA zones 6 to 10, and may even thrive greenhouses in zones 4 and 5 with the right care and attention.

Half-fill 15-inch pots, complete with drainage holes, with an equal mixture of multi-purpose potting soil and organic compost.

    • 3

Place your roses in the pots and fill them with your potting soil/organic compost mixture, leaving 1 inch at the top. Gently pack the soil down with your hands.

    • 4

Moisten the soil with 1 to 3 inches of water; repeat this process once per week and always water in the morning to increase humidity levels. Check that your soil is draining well to avoid sitting water rotting the roots.

    • 5

Keep the temperature of your greenhouse at 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the humidity at 60 to 70 percent. Solar panels inside the greenhouse can help keep the temperature high.

    • 6

Remove all secondary buds on the rose stems with pruning shears, leaving only the central bud remaining. The central bud will keep growing longer and when the roses bloom there will be one single bud at the top of each stem. Prune all dead blossoms and old branches regularly.

Add 1 inch of organic mulch to the base of your rose plants once per year to fertilize.
