How to Remove Weeds From Gravel

Gravel driveways are susceptible to weed growth. An easy and environmentally safe way to eliminate weeds is to use materials that are right in your own home. Prepare and use a salt mixture, which will only eliminate the weeds on the gravel driveway, and will not harm pets or children.

      Pour hot water into a sprayer or large spray bottle. A large driveway will require using a 1- to 3-gallon container. Do not fill it completely to the top, since you will need the room to mix in it.

      Pour one-half cup of plain table salt into the container for each gallon of water. Shake the bottle until the mixture is dissolved.

      Apply the salt solution to weeds. Broad leaf weeds such as plantain and dandelion will need to be dug out a with the hand shovel. After you remove them, spray solution on the spot to kill remaining roots.

      Spray the rest of the driveway with the solution. Be generous when applying the salt solution. Start at one end and then proceed to the far end. If needed, mix another batch.
