Ideas for Engraved Rocks

Since the days of cavemen, humans have used rocks as tablets and mediums of communication. Today, rocks are still used to express feelings or simply decorate a home so that it connects more with nature. Engraved rocks are a good fit in almost any yard or garden and make great gifts.
  1. Pet Tombstones

    • A medium-sized or large rock can be used as a modest grave marker for a beloved pet you have lost. Burying a pet in your backyard or garden is common, since its where many pets loved to hang out and relax. To honor your pet, use a natural stone that blends into the environment and have your pet's name or image engraved into the rock.

    Garden Decor

    • Amongst your flowers or along your backyard path, you may want to place another decorative item: an engraved stone. Stones engraved with cute silhouettes, such as flowers or butterflies, add whimsy to a garden. You may wish to give each family member their own decorative stone and have names engraved into multiple stones with one larger stone representing the last name of the family. Engrave your favorite calming quotes to promote peace and relaxation in your garden.

    House Number

    • Instead of the usual house number marking your address, use an engraved stone. The stone can be placed on your lawn, next to your door or as the base of your mail box. A large rock engraved with your address is a creative way to show pride in your home.

    Seating Area

    • A large rock that is relatively flat on top makes for a great seating area for any garden because it blends into the motif better than a wooden bench. Engrave a friendly saying on the rock or decorate it with engraved images of things found in your garden, such as bees, flowers and butterflies. Multiple large stones can be placed throughout a garden or in a row, as a bench.
