Choose a design to paint that fits your decor and style. Fruit or animal designs go well with a nature or gardening theme.

Select rocks for painting. Choose rocks in sizes and shapes that are suitable for your design. For example, to paint a group of strawberry rocks, select rocks in the rough shape of a strawberry.

Paint the rock with acrylic paint. First practice the design on a piece of paper until you are confident of your artistic skills. If you make a mistake, let your piece dry and then start over again. The rock is three-dimensional, and you will need to consider this when painting. Wrap the practice paper around the rock so you can see where you need to apply paint.

Seal the painted rock with a coat of clear varnish. This clear coating ensures the paint won't come off and gives the rock a glossy finish.
