How to Clean Rocks in Walkways

As a rule, seasonal change requires homeowners and landscape professionals to perform cleaning and other maintenance. In the case of a rock-infused walkway, this means removing any excessive weather and environmental debris. To effectively remove debris and maintain a positive walkway aesthetic, home and business owners must employ pressurized water in addition to an old-fashioned scrub brush, along with a nonabrasive cleaner.

Use a pressure washer to clean leaves and other debris from the rock-infused walkway. To avoid removing any dirt used in the design of the walkway, employ a low-pressure setting on the power washer. Pressure washers can be rented at many home improvement stores.

Use a garden hose to provide an inexpensive pressurized spray to the rock walkway. Spray each individual rock while using a sweeping motion. Remove toys or large pieces of debris before hosing off the rock walkway.

Use a long-handled scrub brush in conjunction with a nonabrasive concrete cleaner. Mix a bucket of commercial concrete or masonry cleaner, then scrub each stone using a circular motion. If the stones are not heavily soiled, dish soap mixed with water will suffice. Spray the rock walkway with a garden hose to remove any excess cleaning product and debris.
