Instructions

    • 1

Find the perfect boulder for your fountain. It should have a relatively flat face. It should be stable and have several different surfaces. Of course, you should choose one that you particularly like. Just remember you will have to drill through it to install the fountain.

    • 2

Drill a hole through the boulder using a wet drill with a stone or masonry bit. It should measure 1 inch in diameter.

    • 3

Dig out a shallow pit where you want to install the fountain. Line this pit with a rubber liner. Line the area around it with rocks. The liner should extend well beyond the bottom surface area of the boulder. This area will be covered by small rocks and should allow the water to drain back into the pit.

    • 4

Install two cinder blocks inside the pit that level with the ground. The boulder will eventually sit on these.

    • 5

Install you fountain pump between the two cinder blocks. Be sure there is room for it in here.

    • 6

Fill the pit with water and make sure it holds the water. If it doesn't, you should install a solid basin inside the pit. Use an apple bucket or shallow, wide metal pail. Install your cinder blocks and pump into the basin.

    • 7

Add supports to the pit. It should hold the boulder. Use steel piping to help support the boulder.

    • 8

Attach your fountain head and piping to the water pump. Test it to make sure it works.

    • 9

Move your boulder next to the pit. Then thread the head and tubing through the boulder. Finally position the boulder onto your supports.

    • 10

Scatter more stones around the bottom of the boulder to hide the support structure and create a better look.
