Walk through the yard looking for an armadillo den or hole. Place a few mothballs inside of the hole. Armadillos have olfactory bulbs, which help them detect food. By placing a strong, noxious smelling material inside of the hole, you can evict armadillos from your garden.
Place a cage trap just outside an armadillo den. Traps are generally available at hunting supply stores. Place earthworms in dirt on a plate or fruit inside of the trap as bait for the armadillo to catch it in the early evening.
Check the cage the next morning. Avoid waiting to see if the cage has worked, because it means the animal will starve inside the cage. Pick up the cage with the armadillo to transport it to another area.
Drive to an area that has water such as a pond or stream that is far away from other houses. Open up the cage. If the armadillo doesn't want to come out, tilt the back of the cage so that the animal slides out.
Fill in the hole with dirt. Pack the soil inside the hole to discourage any other pests from returning. Spread mulch over the hole or plant grass seeds, so the area blends in with the rest of the yard.
