Contact your local branch of the Environmental Protection Agency and find out if you are allowed to set up an outdoor residential misting system. If you do not own the property, this will not be an option. Contact a professional to set up the misting system. The system consists of mounted spray nozzles that are hooked up to a large supply of insecticide.
Set up bug zappers along the deck and on surrounding trees. Mosquitoes are attracted to the light and then killed by an electrostatic charge. Some models are battery powered so you can take them anywhere, but keep in mind that bug zappers won't do much during the day. They will however, reduce the population of mosquitoes.
Purchase a Larvasonic system. Larvasonic transmits sound energy through the water and kills any mosquito larvae within five feet. Drop the device into the water, push the button, wait three seconds and then remove it. This technology is effective because it kills the mosquitoes before they turn into flying adults, but it can be pricey.
Mix 1/4 teaspoon of spearmint with 1 cup of isopropyl alcohol and 1 cup of water in a spray bottle. Put the lid on and shake well. Spray this on the mosquitoes.
