How to Get Beetle Bugs Out of Your House

Outdoor beetles are beneficial insects because they control pests in the garden, including aphids and scales. Unfortunately, beetles sometimes make their way indoors where they quickly become the pest. Common indoor beetles of the insect order Coleoptera include the sawtoothed grain beetle, Asian lady beetle, flour beetle and cigarette beetle. Homeowners don't have to allow these beetles to attack their plants and eat their food. The beetles can be controlled with a little bit of determination.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bucket with 1/2-gallon of hot water and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap. Pick the beetles up by hand and put them in the bucket. The beetles will drown in the soapy water. This will work if you have a few beetles in your home.

    • 2

Place several sticky traps made for bugs and insects around your home where you notice the beetles congregating. Replace the sticky traps once they become full. Continue until the sticky traps remain free of beetles.

    • 3

Vacuum up the beetles with the hose attachment of your vacuum cleaner. Remove the vacuum cleaner bag once you have finished and discard it in a trash can with a secure lid.

    • 4

Set out a few pheromone traps to lure the beetles. Once the beetles enter the traps, they will get stuck and be unable to leave. Replace the traps until you no longer notice any beetles in your home.

    • 5

Spray a pyrethrum-based insecticide directly on the beetles. Pyrethrum is derived from all-natural plant ingredients and is much safer to use indoors than chemical insecticides. The beetles will die instantly once sprayed.
