Water the soil with a hose to soften the dirt. This will make manually removing the forget me not easier.
Put on heavy work gloves to protect your hands during the removal process.
Grab the unwanted plant just above the soil line with your gloved hand. Pull forcefully upward to remove the plant and its roots from the ground. You must remove all roots to prevent resprouting.
Place the forget me not in a garbage bag immediately after removing it from the ground. Repeat the process to remove single plants or small infestations.
Monitor the area, looking for new growth. Immediately remove new seedlings that emerge.
Wait until a calm day when rain isn’t forecasted for about 24 hours. Wear chemical-resistant rubber gloves and safety glasses.
Mix 1 1/3 fluid ounces of a concentrate glyphosate herbicide with 1 gallon of water to create a 1-percent solution. Transfer the diluted herbicide into a garden sprayer.
Spray the foliage of the forget me not with the herbicide solution while holding a piece of cardboard or plastic in front of the grass. Glyphosate is a nonselective herbicide, which means it will kill any vegetation it contacts, including grass. The cardboard or plastic will shield the grass from the herbicide.
Monitor the area, looking for new growth. Repeat the herbicide treatment if needed.
