How to Rebuild a Rally Lawn Mower Carburetor

The Rally lawn mower is a push-style lawn mower manufactured by Murray. The Murray Rally is powered by a single spark plug and a gas engine. It is a 22-inch self-propelled mower. The mower requires regular maintenance. Even if this maintenance is kept up the fuel lines and carburetor can still get clogged up. Old fuel, or debris in the fuel can clog fuel lines and build up as residue inside the carburetor. When this occurs, the carburetor has to be taken apart to be cleaned.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the spark plug wire off the front of the Rally with a pair of pliers.

    • 2

Use a screwdriver to remove the bolt running through the top of the air filer. Lift the air filter from the top of the carburetor.

    • 3

Pull the fuel lines running from the fuel tank and from the primer bulb off with the pliers. Remove the throttle linkage.

    • 4

Remove the bolts holding the Rally carburetor in place with the socket set and lift the carburetor out.

    • 5

Remove the main jet with pliers and run a wire or paper clip through the small hole on the side of the jet to clear it of any debris.

    • 6

Unclip the carburetor bowl and then remove it. Replace it with a new one from the carburetor kit.

    • 7

Use spray carburetor cleaner to clean out the carburetor float. Pull the old O-shaped gasket above the float and install a new one. Slip the replacement bowl back in place under the float.

    • 8

Replace the jet and then lower the carburetor back into place. Mount it into place with its retaining bolts.

    • 9

Replace the fuel lines and the throttle linkage. Also replace the air filter and cover and spark plug wire.
