How to Use an ATV With a Lawn Sprayer

Non-commercial lawn sprayers, designed for use by laypeople or those with just a few acres, can spray a large amount of grass or land with desired chemicals. Commercial lawn sprayers, on the other hand, are attached to specially designed vehicles. Smaller versions can be placed behind an ATV or all-terrain vehicle. To use a lawn sprayer with your ATV, you must have an ATV rack that can hold the sprayer while in use.

Instructions

  1. Assembling the Lawn Sprayer

    • 1

Follow the manufacturer's instructions to assemble all parts of the boom, tank, nozzle and pressure gauge. Some sprayers come completely assembled, while others are partially assembled.

    • 2

Secure the two included boom mounting brackets to each tank mounting plate, using two included screws and a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3

      Turn the tank upside down.

    • 4

Secure the mounting plates to the bottom of the sprayer tank with the four screws.

    • 5

Align the boom assembly with the two boom mounting brackets. Secure the boom assembly to the brackets by inserting two square U-bolts into the two corresponding holes in the center of the boom.

    • 6

Place one end of the hose over the tee barb and secure it to the barb with the included clamp. Twist the spray gun on the other end of the hose.

    • 7

Squeeze the clamp on the pump's red wire open and connect it to the positive post on the ATV battery, and either ground or connect the pump's brown or black wire to the ATV battery's negative post.

    • 8

Turn the tank back over so it is rightside-up. Set it down in the ATV rack. Make sure that the boom is facing outward, behind the ATV and outside of the rack.

    Using the Lawn Sprayer

    • 9

Fill the tank with the desired amount of water, then add in the desired chemical. Refer to the chemical's instructions to determine the exact chemical-to-water mixture.

    • 10

Rotate the nozzle tip to set the spray pattern.

    • 11

Adjust the pressure gauge according to the tip chart and application rate provided by the chemical manufacturer.

    • 12

Get on the ATV, hold the spray gun in your hand and drive over the area you want to spray. Make sure to drive in a straight line.

    • 13

Squeeze the trigger on the spray gun. This will open the boom nozzles and allow the pressurized solution to be released from the unit behind you. As long as you depress the trigger, the solution will continue to spray out. Release the trigger to stop spraying the solution.
