How to Adjust the SpeeCo Valve on My Log Splitter

The valve on a SpeeCo log splitter controls the pressure the splitter uses to split a log. This gives you the ability to adjust its operation according to the hardness of the wood you are splitting. The maximum valve speed is 3,600 rpm. The only way to adjust the valve is via the control lever. Splitting logs at a rate faster than 3,600 rpm could cause the splitter to throw a log out of the machine. Only a certified repair technician has the ability to adjust a valve past the three, preset settings on the log splitter.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand in the operator’s zone, which is on the left side of the footplate. The footplate is on the opposite end of the towing tongue. This location gives you the easiest access to the valve.

    • 2

Locate the valve control lever. The lever has three settings, which are stop, slow and fast. Place the lever on fast, then press the primer bulb on the engine three times. Start the engine.

    • 3

Reduce the valve speed by moving the lever to “Slow.”

    • 4

Return the lever to “Fast” to increase the valve speed before you load the splitter with wood. The engine must run at its maximum speed of 3,600 rpm to split logs accurately.

    • 5

Move the control lever to “Slow” and then to “Stop” to stop the valve and cut power to the engine.
