How to Troubleshoot the Featherlite SST 25 HO

The Featherlite SST 25 is a lawn trimmer manufactured by Weed Eater. The SST 25, which has an engine produced by Husqvarna for Weed Eater, has a two-cycle engine that runs on a gas-oil mixture. Over time, even with maintenance, the trimmer may develop problems either starting or running properly. Common trimmer problems include not starting, running out of line and poor idle. These problems can be isolated quickly and repaired at home with little mechanical knowledge.

Instructions

Remove the Weed Eater gas cap, and check the fuel level. If the fuel has sat inside the tank for longer than three months, dump it out. Mix 1 gallon of gas with 3.2 fluid oz. of two-cycle oil in a gas can, and fill the trimmer tank. Try starting the trimmer once it is filled with gas.

Remove the spark plug wire, and then use a spark plug wrench to remove the plug. If the Featherlite's plug is dirty or fouled, swap it with a new one.

    • 3

Remove the air filter cover, and check the filter. If the filter is slightly dirty, remove it and tap it on a hard surface to clean it out. If the filter is corrode though, replace it with a new one.

    • 4

Adjust the idle speed screw if the trimmer idles too high or too low. Locate the screw on the back side of the engine near the spark plug wire. Start the trimmer and let it run for five minutes. Turn the screw in 1/8-turn increments to the right to speed up the the idle. Turn it in 1/8 increments to the left to lower the idle.

Slip the new spool of replacement line into the bottom of the cutting head. Feed the ends of the line through the two holes on each side of the cutting head. Pull the ends of the line to tighten them.
