How to Remove Spark Plugs From a Cub Cadet Snow Blower

Removing a spark plug from a Cub Cadet snow blower is the same as removing them from just about any other small engine: Remove any shrouds or components blocking your unimpeded access to the plug, then unscrew the plug from the cylinder head. Cub Cadet uses Kohler, Briggs & Stratton and Tecumseh engines to power their snow blowers, and recommends changing the spark plug every 100 hours of use regardless of what engine your snow blower uses. It is a good idea to remove the spark plug and take it to the store with you to find a replacement. This helps ensure you purchase the right plug for your snow blower.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any plastic shrouds or metal shields or components that block your access to the spark plug. You'll usually need a Phillips-head screwdriver or a small socket. The plug will have a rubber boot over it.

    • 2

Grasp the rubber boot firmly between your finger and thumb. Twist and pull the spark plug wire off the spark plug. The twisting motion helps break the seal between the spark plug wire boot and the top of the plug.

    • 3

Blow compressed air around the spark plug to remove dirt, dust and debris. This helps prevent any foreign matter from dropping inside the crankcase when you remove the spark plug.

    • 4

Attach a spark plug socket to a socket wrench. Spark plug sockets have a rubber cushion inside that prevents damage to the spark plug.

    • 5

Turn the spark plug counterclockwise with the socket wrench until the plug is free from the engine. Stuff a small rag into the hole until you are ready to install the new spark plug.
