Assemble the top and bottom clamp pieces to attach the handle to the main shaft. Use the four screws and nuts to secure the handle in place. Do not tighten the screws all the way so the handle can be adjusted.
Push or pull the handle through the clamp assembly so the white arrow/line on the handle's decal lines up with the edge of the clamp.
Hold the trimmer as you would during operation. You should not have to bend over to reach the cutting area. Adjust the handle and clamp assembly to the desired height. Tighten the screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
Attach the cutting shield. Position it so it is just above the clamp assembly at the end of the main shaft, above the cutting unit.
Push the shield down so that it is on top of the cutting assembly.
Turn the shield to align the holes for the screws. The shield should now be sitting in a recessed pocket. Insert the screws and tighten with a Phillips screwdriver.
Mix the two-cycle oil additive with one gallon of unleaded gasoline in an approved fuel container. Fill the trimmer's fuel tank.
Press the fuel primer bulb 10 times; you should see some fuel in the bulb and the fuel line.
Flip the starter switch toward the primer bulb. Lay the unit flat on the ground so the handle is up.
Pull the starter rope until the engine starts; use easy and controlled pulls.
Squeeze the throttle when the engine starts for 15 to 30 seconds to warm up the unit.
Release the throttle and wait for the engine to die to stop the unit. Alternatively, switch the On/Off Stop Control to the off position.
Tap the cutting assembly on the ground to release more trimming line.
Hold the trimmer so the cutting assembly is parallel to the ground for even cutting.
Move the unit either side to side or forward and backward slowly through the area being trimmed.
