How to Rebuild an Echo Carburetor

Echo is an American company that manufactures a variety of different lawn tools, including trimmers, chain saws and leaf blowers. These portable lawn tools all contain two-cycle gas engines, which means they run on a gasoline and two-cycle oil mixture. Echo tools use small carburetors to pump this gas-oil mixture from the gas tank to the engine. Through normal use the fuel lines and jets on the carburetor can become clogged. If this happens the Echo carburetor has to be taken apart and cleaned.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the Echo's spark plug wire with a pair of pliers or by hand.

    • 2

Loosen by hand the wing nut that holds the air filter cover in place. Remove it and the cover and filter and set them aside.

    • 3

Remove the two nuts holding the bottom of the air filter cover in place on top of the carburetor. Use the Allen wrench to remove these two bolts. Set the bolts and the base of the filter housing aside with the rest of the air filter parts.

    • 4

Slide off the fuel lines attached to the body of the carburetor with the needle nose pliers.

    • 5

Remove the throttle linkage from the carburetor with the pliers.

    • 6

Remove the retaining screw holding the carburetor in place with the Phillips screwdriver.

    • 7

Remove the carburetor jets with the screwdriver.

    • 8

Spray the inside of the jets and ports where the fuel lines attach to the carburetor with spray carburetor cleaner and then allow approximately 30 minutes for the carburetor to dry out.

    • 9

Insert the carburetor jets back onto the carburetor with the screwdriver and then mount the carburetor back onto the Echo.

    • 10

Slip the throttle linkage back onto the carburetor's control arm with the pliers and then reattach the fuel lines to the ports.

    • 11

Set the air filter assembly base back on top of the carburetor and replace the two retaining bolts with the Allen wrench. Place the air filter back and then the cover. Replace the cover's wing nut.

    • 12

Fit the spark plug wire back onto the tip of the Echo's plug.
