How to Take the Bottom Hub Off a Toro Zero Turn Mower

Toro "Zero Turn" ride-on mowers are designed to have an extremely tight turning circle, making it easy to cut sharp corners and turn around in confined space. The bottom hub, located on the underside of the mower, spins the cutting blade with power from the engine. Removing the bottom hub lets you take the blade off for sharpening or disposal. Over time, the blade will dull and become less effective. Dented or cracked blades should be replaced immediately.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the engine and securely prop up the side of the mower to gain access to the cutting blade. Put on protective gloves before touching the blade.

    • 2

Hold the blade still with one hand and, using a socket wrench, remove the bolt in the center with your free hand. Once loose, turn the bolt by hand and catch the curved washer and blade stiffener plate.

    • 3

Pull down on the blade to remove it from the mower. Keep the blade, bolt, washer and stiffener together. These parts constitute the bottom hub.
