Turn off your snow blower and park it in a well-ventilated area.
Look inside the auger housing for obvious damage. Any structural damage to the auger will require replacement.
Inspect the auger housing and snow chute for obstructions that could keep the auger from moving. Natural debris such as sticks that are stuck in the chute could impede auger rotation.
Check the shear pin, which will break if an object has obstructed the auger’s rotation. If it’s broken, replace it per the operating manual’s instructions since pin sizes and locking mechanisms can differ among the snow thrower models.
Turn on the snow thrower. Engage the auger control lever for 10 seconds and then release. The hook should barely touch the lever without lifting it up. If it is too tight or too loose, the auger will intermittently operate. Adjust the auger control cable as necessary.
