How to Extend Length of Sprinkler Head

A properly set sprinkler head allows you to walk along the sidewalk past the sprinkler without getting soaked. It also distributes water efficiently throughout your lawn. A sprinkler head has three adjustment points: the left stop, the right stop and the spraying distance. The left stop determines the angle where the sprinkler stops spraying on the left, and the right stop determines the angle where the sprinkler stops spraying on the right. The sprinkler's spraying distance adjusts the distance the water shoots by adjusting the length of the sprinkler head.

Turn the sprinkler head to the right until you can't turn it anymore. Use a flat-head screwdriver to turn the gray screw on the top of the sprinkler head to the left, or counterclockwise, until it does not turn anymore.

    • 2

Align the sprinkler with with the nozzle so it lines up with the right edge of your spray pattern. This sets the right stop on the sprinkler so the water does not spray beyond this point on the right side.

    • 3

Use a flat-head screwdriver to turn the gray screw to the angle you want it. This controls the left stop. Each quarter of a turn changes the left stopping area by 40 degrees.

Turn the small screw on top of the nozzle counterclockwise to increase the spraying distance and clockwise to decrease the spraying distance. Turn on the sprinkler to see if you need to make any changes to either the spraying area or the spraying distance and adjust as needed.
