Task Force Trimmer Electric vs. Battery

Task Force electric and battery trimmers are manufactured by LG Sourcing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lowe's. Task Force trimmers are lightweight and more energy efficient than gas trimmers. They feature lock-on switches that shut the trimmer off should you fall, and they have rust-resistant blades. While both electric and battery trimmers are more environmentally friendly than gas trimmers, there are subtle differences between the two that may make one better for your needs than the other.
  1. Design and Operation

    • Electric trimmers utilize a power cord that is typically between 100 and 150 feet long. The Task Force electric trimmer does not come with its own cord, so you will need to purchase an extension that plugs into the handle of your trimmer. This enables you to connect the length of cord that is ideal for your needs. Rechargeable or cordless Task Force trimmers are typically powered with an 18- or 20-volt battery. These trimmers are quiet, easy to start, and require little maintenance.

    Power

    • While both types of Task Force trimmers are less powerful than a gas-powered trimmer, the battery-operated trimmer is the least powerful. Electric trimmers with a cord provide unlimited power and trimming, but a battery trimmer offers power only for as long as the battery remains charged, which, according to Tesco Direct, is usually about 30 minutes if the battery has been left to charge for at least five hours prior to use. Owners of battery trimmers usually have more than one battery so that when the first runs out of power, a second can be used to continue trimming. Charging the battery for a cordless Task Force trimmer may take anywhere from one to five hours.

    Convenience

    • Both electric and battery Task Force trimmers are lightweight and environmentally friendly, producing less noise than gas trimmers and burning no fuel. Battery-powered Task Force trimmers are portable, giving you the freedom to go wherever you please, while an electric trimmer limits you to the length of the cord. You can attach an extension cord to your electric trimmer, but too much cord can be cumbersome and makes movement around the yard awkward. However, unless you purchase backup batteries, the battery life limits the amount of trimming you can accomplish with a cordless trimmer.

    Maintenance

    • Both battery-powered and electric Task Force trimmers require little maintenance beyond cleaning after use. Before each use, you should also inspect the cord of your electric trimmer to ensure that there are no rips or cracks and examine the outlet for burns. If you see any damage, replace the cord. A battery trimmer requires a battery with a full charge before it can be used. You should replace damaged batteries that have dents, corrosion or holes.
