How to Make a Mount for an ATV Plow

Whether three- or four-wheeled, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are sources of fun for thousands of people. Because of their versatility and off-road capability, ATVs also are used as work vehicles for towing, pulling and hauling. Plow attachments are commonly attached to the front of riding lawn tractors. However, there are smaller plow attachments that can be connected to an ATV. In order to attach a plow to an ATV, a plow mount must be made and installed on the ATV.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the ATV on a flat surface and then jack up the front end so that the front bottom frame is easy to access.

    • 2

Examine the plow's hitching arm. The ATV receiver arm mount will have to match up with the hitching arm on the plow. One of the more common hitching arms is a basic "slide-in" style that is held in place by a sliding pin.

    • 3

Line up the holes on the mounting plate with the holes on the front ATV frame. Slip a bolt through the holes on both sides of the mounting plate and frame. Secure nuts to the back of the bolts by hand and then tighten them with the socket set.

    • 4

Hold the receiver arm mount up to the mounting plate now installed on the ATV. Slip mounting bolts through the receiving arm mount and the mounting plate. Screw the nuts onto the back of the bolts and tighten with the socket set.

    • 5

Lift the plow hitching arm, and line it up with the receiving arm now mounted on the ATV. Slip the hitching arm over the receiving arms, and slip the sliding pin through the holes in both arms to connect the plow.
