Open the fuel tank cap on the trimmer. Pour the fuel into a fuel can, if you are sure that the fuel is not contaminated with dirt or too much oil. If the fuel is contaminated, pour it into a proper container to transport for proper disposal. Pull the fuel lines out of the fuel tank, by hand.
Remove any dry rotted or broken fuel line contaminants from your fuel tank, by turning it upside down and shaking. This will also help you remove the old in-tank fuel filter. Pull the old filter out with your fingers if it does not fall out of the fuel tank fill hole.
Remove the fuel lines from the primer bulb at the carburetor, making sure you remember where the large and small lines are prior to removal. If the fuel lines, use a small razor knife to cut the old lines free form the carburetor.
Cut one end of the larger fuel line at a sharp angle, using side cutters. This will help for insertion into the fuel tank. Insert the larger fuel line into the tank, and push it into the tank about two to three inches. Pull the line from inside the tank outward through the fill hole, using a small hook, or wire hanger.
Cut the end of the larger line straight across with side cutters. Insert the small nipple that fell out of the fuel tank with the fuel line remnants and fuel filter. Pull the fuel line back into the tank, until the small nipple butts up against the inside of the tank.
Cut one end of the smaller fuel line at an angle, using side cutters. Insert the small fuel line into the second hole, and push it through about two to three inches. Pull about three inches of line through the fill hole, using your hook tool. Cut the end of the smaller line straight across. Install the fuel filter into this line, twisting it while you push it in. Use penetrating oil or lubricant to assist you if the fuel filter will not go into the fuel line easily. Pull the fuel line into the tank, leaving five inches inside.
Trim the opposite end of both fuel lines, so that they extend to the carburetor. You can leave a little bit of extra fuel line for slack if you want. Use your side cutters to cut the lines to length. Insert the small and the large fuel lines onto the carburetor.
Fill your Craftsman weed trimmer with fresh two-stroke gasoline oil mixture. Depress the primer bulb 8 to 10 times to push the fresh fuel into the trimmer. Pull the trimmer starting cord to start the trimmer. If the engine is cold, use the choke control to start the engine. Allow the trimmer to run for at least five minutes to cycle all of the old gasoline out of the engine.
