Polaris RZR Air Filter Problems

The Polaris RZR is a dune buggy designed for use on the beach, the desert or any other open space. The RZR has approximately 12 inches of ground clearance and an engine with over 80 horsepower. A dual clutch inlet pulls in air for high and low speed cooling with an air filter that should be changed on a regular basis. If problems occur with the air filter, cooling may be compromised, or the system may overheat.

Things You'll Need

  • Dish washing liquid
  • Drain pan
  • Clean cloths
  • All-purpose grease
  • Replacement air filter (Optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the RZR and allow the motor to cool down completely before proceeding.

    • 2

Locate the air box behind the left rear wheel. Pull off the air box cover and look at the gasket, which should be connected firmly to the rim of the air filter. Replace the gasket if it is loose or damaged.

    • 3

Pull off the air filter and then the pre-filter from the main air filter. Inspect both filters for signs of damage and replace them if torn or damaged.

    • 4

Wash the pre-filter with warm soapy water and rinse it well. Set the pre-filter aside to air-dry. Do not wash the main air filter.

    • 5

Put the pre-filter over the primary filter. Spread a thin layer of all-purpose grease onto the filter edges and reinstall the filters onto the air box housing.

    • 6

Inspect the air box for any water or oil leaks and drain it, if necessary, into an empty drain pan. Wipe the air box clean.

    • 7

Pull out the sediment tube and allow it to drain into the pan. Reconnect the sediment tube and close the air box cover.
