Instructions

  1. Electric String Trimmer Instructions

    • 1

Put on eye protection before starting the trimmer. Long pants or leg protection also is recommended.

    • 2

Plug an outdoor extension cord into the rear of the trimmer.

    • 3

Thread a 16-inch loop of cord through the slot in the handle and hook the loop over the cord's retainer. Pull the excess cord back through the slot until the cord is taut.

    • 4

Plug the opposite end of the extension cord into a power source.

    • 5

Press the switch trigger to start the unit. Release the trigger to stop the unit.

    • 6

Operate the trimmer by placing one hand on the rear handle and the other hand on the front handle.

    • 7

Move the trimmer in a gentle, side-to-side motion to make even cuts.

    • 8

Advance the trimmer string by releasing the switch trigger while the unit is running. Wait two to three seconds and press the trigger again. Each time the machine starts and stops, about a quarter-inch of line is released. Repeat the procedure until about 6 inches of string protrudes from the head.

    • 9

Unplug the unit when trimming is complete. Clean the head of grass and debris.

    Gas-Powered Trimmer Instructions

    • 10

Mix fuel by adding 2.6 ounces of two-cycle oil to 1 gallon of gasoline. Pour the fuel mixture into the trimmer's gas tank.

    • 11

Put on eye protection. Wear long pants or leg protection.

    • 12

Press the primer bulb, next to the carburetor, three or four times. Place the power switch in the "On" position. Slide the choke lever to the "On" position. Squeeze the throttle to "Full Throttle" position.

    • 13

Yank the starter cord until the engine tries to run. This usually takes about three pulls. Turn the choke off, and pull the starter cord again. Run the engine at full throttle for 10 to 20 seconds.

    • 14

Advance the string by tapping the trimmer head on the grass while running it at full throttle. Repeat this motion until 6 inches to 8 inches of string protrudes from the head. Operate the weedeater as you would an electric weedeater. When finished, allow the engine to cool before cleaning and storing it.
