How to Wind a String On a Two-Hole Trimmer

Winding a string on a two-hole trimmer does not have to be a complicated task. However, stringing a trimmer is sometimes the most frustrating part of lawn care due to the string misfeeding or string feeding out too far. A two-hole stringer uses two separate strings and if strung correctly, your trimmer will feed properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the string spool from the trimmer head. The process for completing this step depends on the brand of trimmer you own. However, most trimmers have a plastic nut located on the trimmer head. Turn the nut counterclockwise and then pull the trimmer head cover off the trimmer head. With the cover removed, pull the spool off the shaft. Take note of which end of the spool goes onto the shaft first and which end of the spool butts up against the trimmer head cover.

    • 2

Cut two pieces of trimmer string 9 feet long with a pair of wire cutters.

    • 3

Place the spool on a table with the end of the spool that butts up against the trimmer head cover facing up. Locate the anchor hole inside the spool located towards the top.

    • 4

Place the tip of one trimmer string into the anchor hole and then wind it around the spool counterclockwise, taking precautions to keep the string wrapped around the top half of the spool.

    • 5

Secure the string into the cutout on the top of the plastic spool to lock it in place.

    • 6

Place the tip of the second trimmer string into the anchor hole on the bottom inside of the spool and then wind it around the spool counterclockwise. Keep the string wrapped around the bottom half of the spool.

    • 7

Secure the string into the second cutout on the top of the plastic spool to lock it in place.
