How to Replace a Sprocket on a 350 Husqvarna

Husqvarna is well known for its chain saws. The 350 has a powerful 50cc two-cycle engine, and it uses a sprocket drive system. The sprocket is what drives the chain around the bar. A clutch is attached to the engine crankshaft and the sprocket, with the clutch positioned over the sprocket. As the engine revs, the clutch engages and turns the sprocket, which then turns the chain. Under normal use, the sprocket teeth start to wear down, causing your Husqvarna 350 to perform poorly. Changing the sprocket should take you about 20 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the chain saw on a flat work bench.

    • 2

Remove the two nuts from the casing that covers the back side of the bar and chain, using the socket. Loosen the chain by turning the screw between the two casing bolts counterclockwise. Put on work gloves, slide the chain and blade off the sprocket.

    • 3

Pull off the air filter cover on top of the saw, in front of the handle and trigger. This will expose the spark plug. Pull off the spark plug wire and remove the spark plug with the spark plug wrench. Insert the piston stop into the spark plug hole.

Take the punch and hammer and remove the clutch inside the sprocket. It's a left-handed thread, so put the punch up to the shoulder of the clutch and hit the punch with the hammer, turning it clockwise. Slide the sprocket off.

Slide on the new sprocket and reinstall the clutch. Remove the piston stop and reinstall the spark plug. Push on the air filter cover. Reinstall the bar and the chain. Tighten the chain. Reattach the cover with the two nuts.
