According to John Deere customer service, the serial number for all 200 series John Deere lawn tractors, including the 210, is located on a black plaque on the pedestal just below the steering wheel. The engine serial number, which is different from the tractor serial number, is located on the engine shroud.
All of the models in the 200 series, including the 200, 210, 212, 214 and 216, were included in the same serial number series, beginning with 30,001 in 1975 and ending with 475,000 in 1987. The serial number has a prefix based on the model. Tractors from years 1975-1982 have prefixes C210, C212, C214 and C216. In the years 1983 to 1987 prefixes were M00210X, M00212X, M00214X and M00216T.
To determine the year a tractor was built, find where the serial number falls in this list. For example, a serial number of 30,500 means the tractor is a 1975 model.
