How to Restring an XT120 Lawn Trimmer

The John Deere XT120 lawn trimmer is designed to cut weeds and grass in areas that cannot be reached by your lawn mower. It can be used to create a tight edge around your lawn. The XT120 uses 2 nylon strings that spin rapidly to cut grass and weeds. Both pieces of string are wound onto the head of the trimmer in such a way that more string can be released when the exposed string breaks. After the string supply on the spool is exhausted, the spool must be rewound with new string.

    • 2

Push down the bump button and then turn the spool counterclockwise to remove the spool from the head.

    • 3

Remove any remaining string in the spool.

    • 4

Bend the end of each piece of string and insert it into the eyelets on the center of the spool to secure the string in place.

Push each piece of string through the eyelets on the opposite sides of the spool, allowing approximately 6 inches of string to protrude.
