Replace the spark plug if the plug is cracked. Look for the plug on the top of the engine. Pull the rubber boot holding the plug in place. Unscrew the spark plug with a 3/4-inch wrench and remove it with your hand. Place a new RCJ-6Y spark plug in the hole and screw it tight with the wrench. Place the rubber boot back over the spark plug.
Replace the trimmer line if the line has run out. Push the button on the trimmer head to open it. Remove any extra pieces of line and dirt inside the head. Place two 12-1/2 foot pieces of 0.080-inch line in the holes in the middle of the head. The ends will pop through the sides of the head. Leave 3 to 5 inches of line hanging outside of the head.
Clean the air filter after 5 hours of use to enhance performance if the trimmer is slowing down. Press the "Release" button under the gas cap. The filter will pop out. Clean the filter with soap and water, and then dry it. Drop a few drops of oil on the filter and squeeze the filter to move the oil throughout the filter. Place the filter back in the slot and snap the cover back into place.
