  1. Skid Steer Loader Definition

    • A skid steer loader or skid loader is a compact piece of machinery with two arms attached to a bucket. These arms help you lift and maneuver the bucket, and you can use this bucket for scooping up material and moving it. A skid steer helps you with different landscaping jobs, including excavating trenches and moving soil and mulch around your yard. You operate the controls from a cab surrounded by a cage, which protects you from flying debris.

    Safety

    • Always remain in the cab of the skid steer loader while operating it. These machines are extremely heavy, and a fall could place you under the tires of the vehicle. Always keep away from the skid steer when others are operating it. If not, you place yourself in danger of becoming crushed by the bucket, tires or the machine itself. Always wear goggles and gloves to protect you from debris. Read your user's manual to learn how to operate the machine properly, and never exceed the operating capacity of the machine. If you exceed the rated operating capacity (ROC), you can tip the loader. The SL4510 has an ROC of 1,150 lbs.

    Engine Specifications

    • The Gehl SL4510 skid steer loader uses a Ford four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces up to 40 horsepower. The engine displaces 79 cubic inches -- the total amount of volume your pistons can move through your cylinders in one push. The bucket can hold up to 12 cubic feet of material, and the bucket measures 60 inches wide. This skid loader uses 7.00 x 15 tires on both the front and rear tires.

    Warranty

    • Generally, you receive a 12 year warranty from Gehl that protects you against defects in workmanship and materials. You must register your product to qualify for the warranty.
