Check the fuel tank if the engine does not start. If there is little to no fuel left in the tank, re-fuel it.
Press the primer bulb at least five times. Make sure to press the bulb fully; short pumps may not be enough to prime the engine to start.
Check the ignition switch. If it is set to the "Off" position, set it to the "On" position.
Clean the air filter. Set the choke lever to the "Choke" setting and remove the screws securing the air filter cover in place. Take the air filter out and wash it in water and detergent. Rinse the filter and wait for it to dry. Once it is dry, take some SAE 30 oil and apply just enough to cover the filter. Squeeze the filter to spread the oil over all of the filter, then put the air filter back in place. Put the cover back in and tighten the screws to secure the cover in place.
Start the trimmer with the start-up procedure if the engine is flooded, only do not use the trimmer's choke. Instead, set the trimmer's ignition switch to "On" and press the primer bulb at least five times. Tightly squeeze the starter trigger and, while holding the trigger, pull the starter rope.
