MTD Chipper Shredder 241645 Specs

A wood chipper/shredder converts your cut trees or shrubs into usable mulch, which is a green alternative to throwing away or burning the wood. This process also saves you money on mulching material for your garden. The MTD 241-645-000 shredder is an example of a chipper/shredder, and this piece of equipment was first released in 1991. You can still purchase this chipper from third-party vendors.
  1. Components

    • The MTD 241-645-000 shredder has a side chipper chute that can accommodate materials up to 3 inches in diameter. It also has a leaf ramp that you can lower to insert long items into the chipper, and the leaf ramp can handle items up to 1/2 inch in diameter. It has a bag in the back to capture the mulch. The spark plug, throttle control, choke lever, and starter handle are all located on the front of the machine, allowing you to easily access the needed controls. This shredder produces between 5 and 8 horsepower, and it runs on gasoline.

    Maintenance

    • Always inspect your machine for lose wires and damaged components. Change out spark plugs as needed, and clean them once every season. Clean out the air filter after every 25 hours of use, and add lubrication fluid to your chutes, ramps, and release bars. Use either a brush or cloth to clean your engine, including removing material from your muffler. Use water to clean out the bag and the hopper. Change or re-sharpen your blades as needed. Store your MTD 241-645-000 Shredder in a dry area, and keep it away from other items, especially flammable items. Rub lubricating oil on your shredder and clean it out thoroughly before storing it for the winter.

    Troubleshooting

    • If your engine won't turn over, refuel it, and then check your spark plugs. Check your shredder for loose or broken parts if it shakes too much. If your shredder won't work properly, clean out your air cleaner and fuel system. Also, tighten the spark plug wire connection.

    Warning

    • If you try to feed items larger than the recommended diameters, your chipper can become clogged, and you can damage your machine. Never insert your hands into the chipper, and always wear gloves and safety glasses. Stay away from the discharge area to avoid injury. Don't operate the machine in a closed in area since it can result in a carbon monoxide buildup. Keep pets and children away from your work area. Never use any type of flammable substance to clean your air filter.
