Sears Craftsman 6.5 HP Wood Chipper Information

Craftsman is a brand of tools and consumer power equipment produced and sold by the Sears Holdings Corporation. One of its products is the Craftsman Chipper-Shredder Vacuum, which was first released in 1998. A chipper-shredder converts your clippings, bushes and trees into mulch that you can use in your garden.
  1. Specs

    • The Craftsman Chipper-Shredder Vacuum produces up to 6.5 horsepower, and it is a self-propelled unit. This means that you don't need to exert a lot of effort to get the chipper-shredder to move. The engine oil tank holds up to 20 ounces of oil, and it uses Society of Automotive Engineer 30 brand oil. The fuel tank holds up to 3 quarts of unleaded gasoline, and the tires require 24 pounds per square inch of pressure. The spark plug gap is 0.30 inches, and the chipper-shredder uses Champion RN4C spark plugs.

    Components

    • This chipper-shredder has a bag on the back that catches all chipped material, and it also has a nozzle that acts as a vacuum and picks up smaller material such as pine needles. The chipper chute can handle items up to 3 inches in diameter. Adjust the height of the nozzle door to increase ground clearance. The machine has four wheels, including two larger wheels on the back that help navigate uneven terrain. The major controls are on the back near the handle for easier access. These components include the throttle control, starter handle and primer, which helps start the engine when its cold.

    Warnings/Recommendations

    • Always keep pets and children away from the shredder, and never stick your hand into the shoot while it is in operation. Clean the chipper-shredder after each use to prevent clogs. Use a hose to clean both the chute and the bag. Just let these items dry before using them again. Never wear loose-fitting clothing that can get stuck in components or the chute. You must wear gloves and goggles to protect you from flying debris. And never go over the size recommendations of items that you are feeding into the chute. Otherwise, you can damage the machine and hurt yourself.

    Warranty

    • A one-year limited warranty is included with the machine and covers labor or material defects. This warranty does not cover replaceable items such as spark plugs, bags, blades and tires.
