How Can I Build a Ramp for a Lawn Mower?

Building a lawn-mower ramp may seem like a daunting task. Boards need to be cut, angles need to be calculated and specialized tools need to be used. This is exactly what would happen if a lawn-mower ramp was built from scratch. But there's a far easier way to do this. With a ramp kit, anyone with do-it-yourself experience will be able to build a solid and sturdy lawn-mower ramp with nothing more than regular hand and power tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs and a dust mask.

    • 2

Measure the height of the area to be ramped using a tape measure. Multiply that figure by 3.9 for the correct board length. Board length cannot exceed 36 inches due to safety concerns. If the ramp is 24 inches or more, the boards must be reinforced by joining two boards together for each ramp.

    • 3

Cut the boards to length with a circular saw.

    • 4

Insert the boards into the top ramp pieces. Mark the pre-drilled mounting holes from the manufactured ramp piece tops onto the boards.

    • 5

Drill the holes out with a drill and the appropriate-sized bit. Place the boards back into the ramp piece tops, line up the holes, insert the bolts and tighten them down with an adjustable wrench.
