How do I Replace a Bar Oiler on a Poulan 2150?

The Poulan 2150 chainsaw is one of many two-cycle engine garden tools that the company produces. The bar oiler on your Poulan chainsaw is a mechanism that releases oil onto the blade as you use the tool. Because of the heat generated by the blade when using the chainsaw, this function is needed. If the oiler pump on your Poulan begins to leak or stop working, it can cause severe damage to the engine.

Instructions

    • 1

Take off the spark plug wire with a pair of pliers. Also remove the cap of the bar oiler pump and drain it into a drip pan.

    • 2

Use a wrench to remove the chain break nuts and loosen the bar's tension screw with a screwdriver. Remove the chain and bar from your Poulan chainsaw.

    • 3

Remove the oiler cover with a screwdriver. It is located at the base of the oiler where the bar attaches to the body of the chainsaw.

    • 4

Use the screwdriver to remove the clutch plate. Place the Poulan clutch removal tool onto the clutch's locking bolt and turn it to the right to loosen it, as the clutch bolt is a left-handed thread. Once the bolt is off, slide the clutch assembly off the crankshaft to access the pump housing.

    • 5

Loosen the pump's retaining screws with an Allen wrench and then pull the old pump out. Set the new pump into place and insert and tighten the retaining screws with the Allen wrench.

    • 6

Slide the clutch assembly back into position on the crankshaft. Use the clutch removal tool to replace and tighten the locking clutch nut. Replace the clutch plate and its retaining screw. Also replace the oiler cover with the screwdriver.

    • 7

Mount the bar and chain back onto your Poulan chainsaw. Tighten the tension screw with the screwdriver to tighten the chain back down.

    • 8

Replace the spark plug wire and fill the new oiler pump with Poulan bar and chain oil.
