How to Replace a Primer Bulb in a Stihl FS 75

The FS 75 is a two-cycle, gas-powered trimmer that is manufactured by Stihl and used by both homeowners and professional landscapers. This lightweight trimmer is favored because it is a low-maintenance machine. However, it does require some maintenance, including replacing a leaking primer bulb. The primer bulb on the Stihl trimmer is used to deliver gas from the tank to the carburetor when you are starting the trimmer cold. Replacement of the primer bulb is easy to do and only requires a few steps and tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove your Stihl trimmer's spark plug wire with the pliers.

    • 2

Use a screwdriver to remove the plastic cover on your Stihl trimmer so that you have easier access to the primer bulb.

    • 3

Use a rag with a little bit of fuel poured on the tip of it to wipe off the area around the primer bulb assembly.

    • 4

Remove the primer bulb mounting plate with a screwdriver. There are two screws that hold it into place. Remove them, pull the plate off and then push the old primer bulb out through the back with your thumb.

Insert the new primer bulb by pushing it in from the back and then attach the mounting plate back to your FS 75 and insert the screws to hold it in place. Tighten the screws with a screwdriver.

    • 6

Replace your Stihl's plastic cover and tighten the retaining screws with your screwdriver.

    • 7

Use your pliers to put the spark plug wire back on your FS 75.
