Yard-Man Rear Tine Tiller Identification

Yard-Man is a brand of outdoor power equipment from MTD Products which produces the model RT65 rear tine tiller. A tiller helps you break up and aerate compacted soils, which makes it easier to plant your seeds and also helps your plants' roots grow. Yard-Man first released the RT65 tiller in 1999 but it no longer produces rear tine tillers, as of 2011. Online third-party vendors, however, still sell parts for it.
  1. Features

    • The Yard-Man RT65 rear tine tiller has three transmissions gear settings, including neutral, reverse and forward and it has three forward modes: tines reverse, tines forward and wheels forward. The tines reverse mode will keep your tiller wheels moving forward but your tines will move in reverse drive. The tines forward mode moves your tines and your wheels forward. The wheels forward mode means that your wheels are moving forward but your tines are stationary.

    Specifications

    • Your rear tine tiller's tires require an operating tire pressure of 20 psi. It uses unleaded, regular or low-lead grade gasoline. You must lubricate all the working parts on your tiller at least once a season. The transmission uses 30 oz. of Benalene 920 grease. You must also apply a small amount of silicone sealant or RTV to the right side of the transmission. Your engine does not have any oil in it when you first purchase it. Always fill up the engine with oil before starting it.

    Components

    • The Yard-Man RT65 rear tine tiller has two handles on the back with rubber-coating over the edges where you grip the machine. It has a handle adjustment lever on the top right of the shaft, which allows you to raise or lower the handle height. You also have a depth stake, which allows you to manipulate how deep the tines dig.

The gear selection is on the top left of the shaft. It also has a throttle control, which is located on the tiller engine. This control allows you to stop and start the engine. It also has a choke lever on the left side of the throttle. The choke lever helps you start a cold engine. The clutch control bail, which starts the tine drive and wheels, is located on the handle.

    Additional Information

    • Always clean your tiller after each use, and clean the air filter after 10 hours of use. You must replace your spark plug after every 25 hours of use or before each growing season. Clean your engine out thoroughly with a clean brush or cloth. Do not use a pressure washer to clean your rear tine tiller. The force of the water could damage internal parts.
