How to Set the Engine Timing on an Echo 452Vl Chainsaw

To set the timing on an Echo 452VI chainsaw, you must adjust the screws on the side of the carburetor. The carburetor is responsible for sending the mixture of gasoline and oxygen to the engine cylinder for ignition. Chainsaws have two-cycle engines that run at a very high rpm; the slightest bump on the carburetor can make the saw go out of adjustment, causing it to run sluggish and erratic. Setting the engine timing on your Echo 452VI chainsaw should only take 10 minutes to complete.

Set the chainsaw on a flat workbench. Locate the two adjustment screws on the carburetor, left of the throttle trigger, and directly above the air filter cover. The low speed screw will be marked on the chainsaw casing with an "L," and the high-speed screw will be marked with an "H."

Gently turn the "H" adjustment screw clockwise until it seats, then turn counterclockwise one full turn. Gently turn the "L" adjustment screw clockwise until it seats, then turn counterclockwise 1 and 1/8 of a turn.

Start the engine and allow it to run for 2 minutes. Turn the idle adjustment knob located directly behind the two adjustment screws clockwise until the chain starts to rotate around the bar, then turn the knob 1/2 a turn counterclockwise.
