Corded Grass Trimmers

You have several options when you search for a corded electric trimmer. Many of the major brands offer one or more models to choose from. Advantages of the corded trimmer are that they are lightweight and do not require you to deal with mixing oil and gas to make the trimmer run. Also, you have an endless supply of electrical power, unlike a battery-operated trimmer. But any corded trimmer has its limits. They are best for small yards because your power cord length determines how far you can go.

You can replace the spool without any special tools and it bump feeds, which means that you tap the head of the trimmer on the ground as it runs and more line feeds out. You may flip this trimmer on its side, and it can edge your lawn. The cord lock keeps your power cord in place. This trimmer comes with a two-year warranty and, as of March 2011, it retails for $49.99.

Trimmer line is automatically fed through two line feeds, and the line diameter is .065 inches wide. As of March 2011, the 12-inch trimmer retails for $59.99, and the 15-inch trimmer retails for $69.99. Both trimmers come with a two-year warranty.

    Stihl FSE 60

    • Stihl produces the FSE 60. This trimmer runs from a 5.3 amp motor, and its cut width is 14 inches. It weights 8.8 lbs. This trimmer's design allows it to keep its noise below 60 decibels when it has Stihl's quiet-line in it. The trimmer uses a bump head to feed the line, and to replace line on the spool all you do is feed the line through the holes and twist the spool head. As of March 2011, this trimmer retails for $119.95.

    Cord Gauge

    • One factor that is important is how long of an electric cord you will need because the longer the cord you use, the larger gauge you must use. With an electric trimmer that uses a 25-foot cord, you only need an 18-gauge cord. With a 50-foot cord, you need a 16-gauge cord. At 100 feet of cord length, you need a 14-gauge cord, and, if you use a 200-foot extension cord, you need a 12-gauge cord. The gauge of the cord refers to how thick it is. All cords will say on their package their gauge size.
