How to Take Apart Soaker Hose Compression Fittings

Soaker hoses are used to water plants and shrubbery through a method of drip irrigation. Water in soaker hoses seeps out through the side and into the ground directly. This prevents water loss that happens in the air with regular hoses. Soaker hoses are held together with compression fittings that fit tightly together through couplings, which provide a watertight seal and also allow the homeowner to design a customized irrigation system for his garden by using multiple fittings to add subsidiary lines on the hose. If needed, you can take apart soaker the compression fittings so you can replace or repair the soaker hoses.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the water supply for the soaker hose on which you wish to remove the compression fittings, if it is currently running.

    • 2

Clear off any objects or debris that might be on top of the soaker hose, such as planters or mulch.

    • 3

Locate the compression fitting on the soaker hose that you want to remove. It may be easier to reel in the soaker hose so you can more easily find the fitting.

    • 4

Unscrew the compression hose coupling from the adjoining hose by turning it counterclockwise. If the coupling doesn't want to budge, use a pair of pliers to help manipulate it. You can also pour hot water on a stuck compression hose joint. This will expand the plastic and make it easier to take apart.
